More Than a Practice
Intention. Integrity. Whole Person Care.
My name is Emily Cabrera, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a doctorate in education, specialized training in integrative psychiatry, and certification in critical incident stress management and perinatal mood disorders. Nearly 20 years of nursing across critical care, emergency medicine, and academic education brought me here, to a practice built on the belief that people deserve something better than what traditional psychiatric care has typically offered. That belief did not come from a textbook. It came from watching my mother.
I want you to know where Dual Minds Integrative Psychiatry came from, because I think it matters.
My mother was a nurse for four decades and the biggest influence on how I see psychiatric care. She lived with mental illness, and although she ultimately passed away in 2025 from breast cancer, I genuinely believe she left this world far sooner than she should have. She valued western psychiatric and medical care and was treated within it, but she always sought something more, an integrative approach that treated her as a whole person. That kind of care existed, but it was not cost effective, not readily available, and not accessible to most people who needed it. Mental illness does not just live in the mind. It moves through the body, through relationships, through every part of a person's life, quietly doing damage that most people never fully see or name. Watching that happen to someone I loved, someone who deserved better and actively looked for it, shaped everything about how I practice and what I believe people deserve when they finally ask for help.
That grief became a conviction. The conviction became Dual Minds Integrative Psychiatry, and this practice is dedicated to her.
My close friend Jamy and I laid the foundation of this practice together throughout the last decade, including the vision, the mission, and the name itself. What started as a conversation between two nurses who believed psychiatric care could look fundamentally different has grown into something neither of us could have fully imagined at the time. Every person on this team was chosen with intention, known to me personally and professionally, and trusted completely to carry this mission with the same level of care and integrity I would myself. What you will find at Dual Minds Integrative Psychiatry is not a directory of providers. It is a team of people who genuinely show up for the populations most likely to fall through the cracks of traditional care.

Growing With Our Mission
Dual Minds Integrative Psychiatry is growing, and that is by design. Licensed drug and alcohol counselors are joining the practice. Acupuncture and massage therapy are coming soon with providers who specialize in nervous system dysregulation and understand first responder culture from the inside. This is deliberate, clinical, body-based care built for the people who need it most.
